SEOUL ART DAY TOUR

Meeting point: 10:00 AM, Daehanmun Gate, Deoksugung Palace

This branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea sits inside the grounds of Deoksugung Palace, so the walk to the galleries is part of the visit. The museum presents a changing program of modern and contemporary Korean art, and we visit the exhibition on view during the season of your tour.
Because the lineup changes through the year, each season offers something different, from retrospectives of Korean masters to fresh contemporary themes.

Stop 1 : MMCA Deoksugung

SeMA’s main branch is in Seosomun, a short walk from Deoksugung, and its façade preserves the look of the historic former Supreme Court building. Exhibitions here change through the year, and we visit whichever one is on view in the season of your tour.
It is a good way to see what Seoul’s contemporary art scene is focused on right now, in a museum right in the heart of the city.

Stop 2 : Seoul Museum of Art

Lunch is served in a hanok, a traditional Korean house with a tiled roof, wooden beams and a courtyard feel. Pasta in such a setting is a small taste of how modern Seoul mixes old and new, and it is a quiet break between the morning museums and the afternoon.

Stop 3 : Hanok Spaghetti

Settle in at a Myeongdong hotel lounge for a tiered stand of sweets and savory bites, with a view of Namsan Mountain and N Seoul Tower. In autumn, the hillside colors make this one of the most photogenic pauses of the

Namsan View Afternoon Tea

The day closes with a guided tour of 100 contemporary artworks from Latin America. Expect bold color and expressive figures, and a docent will explain the artists and the ideas behind the works so that each piece is easy to connect with, whether or not you know the region’s art.
